27 Companies That Changed The World

The Productive Leader exists to inspire leaders to build distinctive disruptive profitable organizations and live stress-free lives. In other words to help our Members and their teams create product and service offerings that are distinctive. Products that stand out from others. Also to establish a niche that is disruptive to the normal way of doing things.

We can learn a lot about how to build distinctive disruptive profitable organizations by reading about leaders who built distinctive disruptive and profitable organizations. The June 30, 2014 issue of Fortune Magazine has a link to a list of 27 companies that did contribute to world change. Some are familiar names like Ford, Google, and GE. Others are not so familiar like British East India Company, Svenska Tandsticks AB, and Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena.

So what is so important about this list of organization? The leaders were innovators. They saw a need and build products and services to fill the need. They overcame challenges. They persevered when challenged. They nurtured their organizations for robust growth. They gave back to the world.

What did the founders of the organizations have in common? They knowingly or unknowingly tapped into principles for building profitable sustainable organizations. We can identify those principles and learn lot of being a change agent by reading the article and then the biographies of leaders who intrigue us.

Three of my favorites from the list are Henry Ford, Ray Kroc, and Thomas Edison.

From Henry’s life I learned the lesson that change is inevitable and the price he paid so Ford Motor Company could stay relevant in a changing world.

From Ray Kroc I learned the lesson of perseverance. To never give up even when it seem there is no way to succeed.

From Thomas Edison I learned the lesson of repurposing failed products for bigger and more profitable outcome.

Who are your favorites?
